Sounds a bit like one of those Scotsman type jokes – talking about health and fitness in the same sentence as fish and chip shops – but Maria illustrates the benefits of eating everything in moderation and exercising regularly! Through sponsorship, a variety of fundraising events and brilliant support and hands on involvement from her clients, Maria has raised around £30,000 for charity.
At that time, there were no exercise facilities or classes in Millport. Maria worked out regularly to her fitness videos at home and started running to build her strength and stamina. She was a familiar sight to all the locals, running the ten mile plus road round the island most days! She was repeatedly asked by locals to start an exercise class and kicked off her career in health and fitness with no less than forty people turning up for her first class, which she held in the local school and donated the class fees to school funds. She realised she would need qualifications to carry on taking regular classes and worked hard to achieve the appropriate qualifications in a wide range of disciplines while building up her weekly classes in a number of Ayrshire locations. Many of Maria's clients want to loose weight. One client lost a life changing 10 stones and a 4 – 5 stone loss is achieved by many of Maria's clients.
A chance meeting with a Lawyer looking for personal training led Maria into this area of health and fitness and she has been working as a fully qualified Personal Trainer for over ten years now. She is constantly investing in the latest science and technology in sport and her gymnasium boasts a Power Plate Machine, Kinesis System and Pilates Reformer as well as traditional exercise equipment including Cross Trainer, Tread Mill, Rowing Machine and an extensive range of weights. "Many people can be intimidated by the thought of joining a Gym," said Maria. "At Fit-2-gether, I work on a one to one basis with clients and create a bespoke exercise programme, designed to deliver maximum results.
